The internet based messaging and calling app, Viber has signed an agreement with Mobilink to offer unlimited access to Viber’s mobile app for its subscribers. This agreement will allow the 36 million Mobilink users to send unlimited text messages and make unlimited HD quality calls to other Viber users.
Viber, a global provider of mobile communications platform offering free messaging and HD-quality phone calls, has more than 175 million users in 193 countries.
Talmon Marco, CEO of Viber Media said that their company strived to make Viber available for as many users as possible and this new partnership would help them provide free calls and messaging to another large group of users. Marco said that they had experienced major growth in Pakistan and that it was emerging as a strategic market for them.
Farid Ahmad, VP Marketing of Mobilink said that the number of users who trusted their data network for their day to day communications continued to grow and their attractive mobile Internet offers made it possible for subscribers to stay connected on the go.
After its Facebook bundle offer, this deal with Viber is a very progressive initiative by Mobilink as increased broadband proliferation and internet usage has moved the subscribers towards cheaper alternatives for messaging and calling to their friends and family abroad. This will surely bring back some of the international traffic through the telecom route that was lost to the internet.
